As it is coming to the end of the season and the end of long long sponsorship with Carlsberg, I did a search to see if i could find any sneak previews of our new kits for next season, this is what I found….. what do you think?… are they real?

City are owned by one member of the Al Nahyan dynasty, Sheikh Mansour, but reliable sources claim the family are pursuing an interest in the Reds.

In order for such a deal to be sanctioned by the Premier League the family would have to prove the competition between City and Liverpool would in no way be affected.

But Premier League chiefs do not believe that would pose a problem, with one saying: ‘Sibling rivalry can be the strongest of competitive instincts.’

Liverpool’s current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett would want around £400million to sell the club but their price may drop if the club fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The family’s interest at Anfield was first reported in December but, according to one source, the purchase of City has been viewed as a great success in terms of raising the profile of Sheikh Mansour, and this has intensified interest in Liverpool.

The source said: ‘City is viewed as having been a good move and now the family are interested in Liverpool.

‘In the Far East, it is Manchester United that are the big club but in the Arab world it is Liverpool most people are mad about.’

Galatasaray midfielder Arda Turan has issued a fresh ‘come and get me’ plea to Liverpool, stating that it would be a dream come true for him.

The highly-rated midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield in the January transfer window with a part-exchange deal for the then out-of-favour Ryan Babel touted as the most likely option.

Cimbom captain Turan, 22, has received glowing references about the Reds from former players Harry Kewell and Milan Baros – both currently at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium.

The Turkey international is again considering his option elsewhere and has high hopes for a move to Merseyside, despite Rafael Benitez set to be handed a meagre transfer warchest this summer.

He said: “Of course I want to play abroad but it is our board’s decision. As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition.

“In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them.

“My dream has always been to play for one of the top European clubs, but you shouldn’t make concrete plans in your life because sometimes these plans cannot be achieved.

“This is my dream, but for now I’m just working on my football.”

Turan’s comments come 24 hours after Palermo defender Simon Kjaer revealed that his preferred destination is Liverpool so that he can forge a defensive partnership with compatriot Daniel Agger.

Despite continuing fan discontent and concerns over the financing of the club’s debt, Liverpool FC’s owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett were given a boost this week when it was revealed that the club’s revenues have been boosted by almost €10 million.

Liverpool have moved up to seventh place in Deloitte’s Football Money League, after the Reds’ annual revenues climbed from €207.4 million to €217 million. Liverpool still trailed Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, but United’s revenues only improved by €2.2 million, and both chelsea and Arsenal recorded lower revenues than in previous years.

‘Broadcasting revenue of £74.6m (€87.6m) has risen by £3.8m (5%) since 2007/08,’ reports Deloitte. ‘The increase reflected a second place Premier League finish in 2008/09, which provided £50.3m of revenue (a £4.3m (9%) uplift). Reaching the quarter-final of the Uefa Champions League in 2008/09 earned Liverpool €23.2m (£19.7m) which was €3.6m lower than the amount received from Uefa for reaching the semi-final in the previous season. Having failed to reach the last 16 of the Champions League in 2009/10, Liverpool will be looking for a very strong Uefa Europa League performance to minimise the shortfall against the level of European revenues they usually generate.

‘Despite the challenging sponsorship market, Liverpool achieved a £13.5m (25%) increase in commercial revenues to £67.7m (€79.5m), which accounts for 37% of the club’s total revenue, following the commencement of four new partnerships, reportedly worth a combined £10m (€12m).’

Deloitte also noted that Liverpool’s performance is likely to improve in coming seasons, when, amongst other things, its £20 million per year shirt sponsorship agreement with Standard Chartered begins. That deal more than doubles what Liverpool currently receive annually from Carlsberg. However, the report also noted that, to move up the Football Money League, Liverpool are likely to need to move to their proposed new stadium.

Failure to do so has been a key part of fan discontent at Anfield. A poster campaign in Liverpool has seen billboards throughout the city carry the message: ‘Tom and George, Debt, Lies, Cowboys. Not welcome here.’

‘The first is the value of the player in the short and long term, while the second takes into account the player’s natural footballing progression and development.

‘All of these aspects were taken into consideration and we felt it right to allow Dave and his family to talk to Liverpool.

‘We’re delighted to be able to accept a bid on behalf of such a big club, but stress that the club’s policy of allowing young players to leave is a strict one.’

Rafa Benitez today predicted a bright future for Liverpool Football Club and admitted he is encouraged by the positive impact already made by changes implemented to the youth setup at Anfield.

The Reds boss helped instigate a reshuffle of the club’s Reserve and Academy structures over the summer, with several new staff drafted in to bolster the production line of young talent.

Benitez believes early signs are positive and is certain Liverpool’s future is in safe hands.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: “It is much better now. The players can see the difference and I am sure it will be easier for them to progress.

“It is always important to develop your own players. Local players have passion and desire and I think that is the key if you want to be consistent and stay at the top of the table – you have to produce your own players.

“When you make changes it can take time, but we all have the same plan, everybody is following it and we try to do the same things here at Melwood and at the Academy.”

Asked if he felt the future was a positive one for Liverpool, Benitez replied: “Yes, I think so. I am sure.”

With the Reds senior squad suffering a spate of injuries in recent weeks, Benitez has been forced to call upon the services of several youngsters from John McMahon’s table-topping reserve side.

The likes of Nathan Eccleston, Daniel Ayala, Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing have all turned out for the first-team this season – and the gaffer admits he’d have no qualms about dipping into the second string pool again in future.

“The Reserves are a very good team,” he said. “We changed the staff and some players and we knew the first year could be difficult, but they are doing very well.

“They are playing well, are well organised and know what they are doing.

“It means we can bring in some players and you have seen they can perform. The likes of Eccleston, Darby, Ayala and Pacheco – we know we can use these players and they will know what to do.”

While McMahon’s men hold a three point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North, having lost just once so far this term, the form of the under-18s has fluctuated.

However, Benitez insists the most critical aspect of Academy level football is the development and growth of young prospects – rather than results.

The Spaniard said: “The most important thing at that level is to produce players. When you change things, you can’t expect to be winning from the first day.

“But at least you can see the players have a plan, and it is the same for everyone at the club.

“The connection with Melwood is good and the players know if they have to do something, it is because the senior players are doing the same.”

Benitez’s fellow countrymen Rodolfo Borrell and Pep Segura were just two of several new arrivals at the club’s youth complex in pre-season – and the manager feels the changes are helping drive the Academy forward in the right direction.

“They are doing well, but we didn’t bring in just these two coaches,” he continued. “We brought in more people and changed staff, so to name all of them would be difficult, but I am really pleased because they are doing a very good job.

“When you talk with agents, or people who are involved with coaching or watching the Academy, everyone says it has changed a lot.

“So I am pleased because it is the first year in charge, and you can see some changes.

“We can improve by winning more games and then things will always be easier and more positive, but the direction is right.

“Both Rodolfo and Pepe, and the rest of the staff are doing a very good job.”

Rumors from Anfield suggest that the clubs owners are considering plans to dilute their shareholding in an attempt to bring in new capital to our debt saddled club.

Both owners currently own a token 1 share in Kop Holdings Ltd – the company that effectively owns Liverpool FC – giving them an even 50% split of the club.

A new share issue would enable a third investor or group of investors to take a stake in the club.

Several media sources have indicated that the owners may consider giving away (between them) a 30% share of the club for upwards of £100M.

It would be a substantial change in strategy, certainly from Tom Hicks, who has previously insisted that he would not give up his ‘technically’ majority vote in the club. It is suggested that Christian Purslow is using his investment background to try and orchestrate such a deal.

As we reported earlier this year, Liverpool’s projection to keep their debt under control was heavily reliant on consistent qualification in the Champions League for the next 5-6 seasons. This year the reds have banked around £14M in transfer profit, and the banks were so concerned this summer that they demanded the owners clear at least £60M of the loan before they allowed a new loan to negotiate.

Liverpool are carrying debt at just under £300M – a loan which was used to effectively buy the club and clear off previous debts.

If these rumors are correct – would the best course of action not be to offer Liverpool fans, or a Liverpool fans’ consortium the opportunity to invest in the club?
